Deepti Naval
A young Indian girl from New York. A thinking man’s actress in India. A poet. A painter. A photographer. For the last three decades, Deepti Naval has won laurels no matter which creative outlet she has chosen. Then be it commercial, art or crossover cinema, the bubbly Ms.Chamko of “Chashme Baddoor” in 1982 to the complex and protective Chaitali of “Leela” in 2002, this award-winning actress has invented and re-invented herself constantly in over 70 films.

She also wrote and directed “Thodasa Aasmaan”, a TV serial about women, and produced a travel show called “The Path Less Traveled”. Deepti is the author of several books of poetry, including Lamha Lamha, Black Winds And Other Poems and River Poems. A skilled mountaineer, Deepti navigated the treacherous mountain terrain of Laddakh, India alone in 2004. She is also a painter and photographer with several exhibitions to her credit. For this talented and versatile actress, the world is her oyster.
Shonali Bose
Shonali Bose first won accolades for her short films, “The Gendarme Is Here”, “Undocumented” and “Lifting The Veil”, which investigated the early effects of globalization on India. But it was her debut feature film “Amu” premiered amidst pin-drop silence at the Toronto Film Festival in 2005, which went on to win the Indian National Award for best film in English as well as rave reviews across the globe. Her first novel which also goes by the same name was released concurrently with the film. The film was based on the horrific 1984 riots in Delhi after Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s assassination.

Born and brought up in India, the activist in her was alive even during her student days in Delhi University, India and Columbia University in New York where she was passionately involved with theatre. After working for a year as an organizer at the National Lawyer’s Guild, she went on to do the MFA Directing Program at UCLA. Shonali lives in Los Angeles with her family, where she produces and hosts a monthly radio show about South Asia on KPFK..
Anurag Kashyap

Realism is his genre and honest and hard-hitting is what he likes his films to be. Writer of highly acclaimed films like Yuva, Satya, Shool and Kaun to name a few, Anurag Kashyap epitomizes the changing face of the Indian film industry. He also wrote Deepa Mehta’s “Water” which is now gunning for the Oscars after being stalled for over five years. Director of yet-to-be-released films like “Paanch” and “Black Friday” based on the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, his films have wowed audiences and won critical acclaim in film festivals around the world including Locarno. Filmmakers like him are rare to come by but Anurag Kashyap knows what it is like to be different. For now though, he plans to re-invent his muse with his next film — No Smoking — an out and out comedy…
